I thought it would be better before I start rambling about places I've visited and want to visit, that I should really give you a little insight into why i am so interested in heritage.
First of all i have always been interested in history, whether that was looking at fossils with my parents at Lyme Regis, mummys and the Pryamids when i went to Egypt or watching documentaries on tv. I really started to enjoy history when i took it at G.C.S.E. in school and then later on at A. Level. I must admit that having studied the Third Reich and Hitler since i was 16 i am now completely fed up with it, but that is the great thing about history, as each day goes by new history is being created and i will always have something to research or investigate.
I decided to continue my history studies at Bath Spa University, which i will be hopefully graduating from next month. It was during my time here that i took the opportunity to study heritage and it was the best choice i think i ever made at university. Not only did it give me access into musuems and art gallery talks i might not have heard about but it also allowed me to volunteer in the Bath Record Offices.
This one module provided me with more skills and positive opportunities than any others i took at Bath Spa. In my final year of university me and my heritage group had to set up an exhibition based on the 'special relationship' between America and Britain. I will go into more detail about this in my next post or else this one will be far too long! The exhibition though gave me some amazing experiences and skills to come away with and i have now been biten by the bug that is heritage.
I have several options that i would like to come out of my time at Bath Spa and my heritage studies. Either to go back to Bath Spa and either take the MA in heritage, or to go back and take the P.G.C.E. The reason i would possibly like to take the MA is because it would give me a firmer standing if i wanted to get a job at being a curator, the reason behing the P.G.C.E. would be so that i could be an education officer. All i know at the moment is that i won't be going back to university for at least a year or two. I want to get some volunteer work under my belt, as well as earning enough money to take either of these.
So to end, expect from now on posts about different places that i have visited and my ratings on them, as well as my own personal experience and opportunities in the heritage field. I hope you enjoy!
